hina azfar

Hina Azfar

Couples and Family Therapist

I am a psychotherapist based in Lahore. Beginning my career as a corporate lawyer, my focus on personal development drew me to the mental health realm.

My work is integrative and relational with focus on issues within the context of marriage, couples, and family systems, including trauma, abuse, depression, anxiety, hostile family relationships, challenging life transitions, family of origin issues, marital discord and couples conflict.

At the heart of the intricate art of navigation of relationships is the relationship with the self. Our perceptions, interactions and experiences in relationships are shaped by how we experience ourselves and our human frailty. In bringing insight to how this unconsciously manifests in couples and family dynamics and by building awareness around damaging patterns in relationships, I facilitate clients towards growth and meaningful change leading to more robust, fulfilling relationships. I remain informed by and respectful of the nuances of relationships within unique cultural contexts and inter generational influences.

My Approach: I believe every person in the family has a unique contribution to make to the whole, and my purpose is to support parents and caregivers in appreciating their child’s strengths alongside understanding this uniqueness and diversity. I take the whole family approach with the view that children can not be seen or worked with in isolation – they are part of a system. Therefore, I work holistically, primarily with the child but, alongside the parents as well. Thus aiming to bring about a shift in the entire family system.

My work centers around an integrative-holistic approach to Play Therapy with a toolkit that includes expressive therapies such as:

  • Sand play
  • Arts and crafts
  • Music
  • Therapeutic stories
  • Clay work

Coupled with mind-body techniques such as:

  • Movement, and
  • Relaxation through visualization and breathing.

My primary goal for my young clients is to facilitate their process, bearing witness to their therapeutic journey, and becoming an environment that makes space for them to play out all their feelings, give vent to their emotions, get messy, and in the unfolding discover different facets of themselves in a pressure free haven.

My intent is also to help bridge the parent child communication gap, with parents as the drivers of the relationship because no therapy is effective without the parents becoming partners. I, therefore, strive to create a judgment free space for parents aiming to equip them with the language and appreciation to understand their child on a deeper, personal level – rooted in developmental, sensory, emotional and cognitive awareness.

Whatever brings you to this therapeutic space, I offer you warmth, safety, confidentiality, and presence
